Following a period of reflection, the current Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has announced his firm intention to once again run for mayor in the elections scheduled for May 2027. He expressed confidence in his ability to continue leading the city council and serving the people of Madrid.
Martínez-Almeida stated he is "fully convinced" that he still has "many projects ahead" and "enormous enthusiasm" to work for a city he considers "unstoppable." "This city has no limits," he declared after participating in commemorative events for FAD Juventud.
The mayor emphasized the importance of "honesty" with the citizens, explaining that his reflection process was not about "continuing for the sake of continuing." "Madrid's residents deserve the respect of anyone wishing to hold the Mayor's office to undergo the process of determining if they have the strength, desire, and enthusiasm to continue in a position that is a tremendous privilege," he told the media.
He stressed that this "privilege" must be met with "responsibility." "The only thing I proposed to the people of Madrid with honesty was to undertake this reflection, to be sincere with myself, but above all, to be sincere and honest with them," he concluded, reiterating his state of being "fully committed, absolutely fully committed."
