Following a period of personal reflection, which included consultations with his family, the mayor has decided to run again in the municipal elections. Almeida had previously expressed doubts about his continuity, mentioning the possibility of a job change and the need for his wife's support.
In an interview, the mayor stated: "I am in a position to tell the people of Madrid that all the necessary requirements are met in me to run in the next municipal elections." This decision comes after the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, preempted his announcement, an act Almeida described as a "determining factor."
The mayor's main objective will be to regain the absolute majority secured in 2023, although he acknowledges that "absolute majorities are very costly" and that hard work will be essential for citizens to appreciate their advantages.
While he has not yet revealed the specific pillars of his electoral program, Almeida indicated that the "priority will, of course, be to maintain the economic growth of the city of Madrid." Housing, identified as the main problem by Madrid residents in recent polls, is placed third in his priorities.
