A 92-year-old woman is in very serious condition after being hit by a truck this Wednesday midday on the central Atocha street in the capital. The incident, which occurred near number 63, mobilized emergency services to assist the victim and manage security in the area.
The event took place around 12:30 PM, at a point on the road where there is no traffic light regulation or an designated pedestrian crossing. Upon receiving the alert, teams from SAMUR-Civil Protection, personnel from the Municipal Firefighters, and patrols from the Municipal Police rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, medical staff found the affected woman conscious, although she presented an extremely serious leg injury—described as 'catastrophic'—in addition to severe abdominal and pelvic trauma. After being intubated and stabilized by the medical team, she was urgently transported to the Clinical Hospital in very serious condition.
In addition to the care provided to the woman, SAMUR-Civil Protection teams also had to intervene to assist the driver of the heavy vehicle, who suffered an anxiety attack as a result of the accident.
The investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of the incident has been placed under the responsibility of the Madrid Municipal Police, a body that has the support of Mobility Agents in traffic management and the preparation of the corresponding official report.
