Torrejón de Ardoz paid tribute to poetry and the legacy of Fernando Calvo with the celebration of the 2026 Poetry Contest and the 'Torrejón en Verso' event, which included an awards ceremony and various cultural activities.

The awards ceremony for the Fernando Calvo Poetry Contest 2026 took place last Friday, October 23rd, at the Centro Cultural Las Fronteras, as part of the 'Torrejón en Verso 2026' event. The first prize was awarded to M.ª Félix Vázquez Gallego for her poem “Intramuros”. The honorable mentions went to Isabel García Uría for “Un gato en la memoria” and Manuel José Osorio Gómez for “Informe de daños estructurales”.
The event, organized by the Tertulia Poética Desván in collaboration with the Culture Department of the Torrejón de Ardoz City Council, was attended by the mayor, Alejandro Navarro Prieto, and the Culture Councilor, José Antonio Moreno.
The program over both days combined recitals dedicated to great literary voices, musical performances, dance, tributes, and talks, aiming to bring poetic word to different audiences and artistic disciplines.
The event began with heartfelt words from Carmen García, president of the Asociación Tertulia Poética Desván, in memory of Osvaldo Cipriani, a recently deceased photography professor and renowned Argentine artist.
