The Coslada City Council has highly praised the results of the 2026 Participatory Budgets, an initiative that involved 1,893 adults, children, and young people and will lead to eight projects across different neighborhoods.

A total of 1,246 adults chose six finalist projects from 64 proposals. These actions will focus on the accessibility and safety of school environments, the creation of shaded areas, climate shelters, the renaturalization of educational spaces, and the improvement of urban furniture and public services. Selected initiatives include a new pedestrian access in Plaza del Mar Caspio for CEIP William Shakespeare; a shade corridor between the Teatro Antonio López and La Rambla metro station; improvements in the areas of Menéndez Pidal and Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente; the renaturalization of the courtyard at CEIP Villalar; enhancements to lighting, benches, and green areas in El Cerro; and the installation of self-cleaning public restrooms in the Barrio de la Estación.
The Mayor of Coslada, Ángel Viveros, highlighted the importance of citizen participation: “These Participatory Budgets show that when we open real spaces for participation, residents get involved, contribute their ideas, and want to be protagonists in decisions affecting their city.” The projects will be distributed across the neighborhoods of Puerto–Centro, Valleaguado–Espinilla–Cañada, Cerro–Colina–Conejeras, Ciudad 70, and Ciudad y Barrio de la Estación.
The specific vote for Children and Youth, aimed at participants aged 12 to 17, saw 647 participants and selected two initiatives. In the Barrio del Puerto, new shaded benches and a drinking fountain will be installed, gathering 432 votes. In La Rambla, another drinking fountain and new large benches will be jointly implemented, with a total of 367 votes.
The Councilor for Citizen Participation, Elena Lebrato, emphasized the value of the experience, particularly the involvement of young people: “The fact that 647 boys and girls participated in this vote is magnificent news. We want children and youth to know that Coslada is also their city, that their ideas matter, and that they have the capacity to decide on the spaces they use daily.” The City Council thanks all participants, neighborhood associations, and educational centers for their involvement.
