The comprehensive renovation works on Núñez de Guzmán street, in the Puerta de Madrid neighborhood of Alcalá de Henares, have commenced. This project, considered a priority and highly demanded by residents, has an investment of approximately 1.7 million euros, funded 95% by the Community of Madrid's PIR.
The intervention aims to completely renew the asphalt, improve road safety conditions, and adapt pedestrian crossings to current regulations. Núñez de Guzmán street, a strategic axis in District II, connects essential points of the city's historical and cultural heritage, such as the urban center and the archaeological site of Complutum.
The asphalt pavement renovation will cover over 800 meters of roadway, from the roundabout with Alfonso de Alcalá street to the roundabout of Jesús Rodríguez Magro, including a dead-end section to the north. The paving of the northern sidewalk will also be renewed, and pedestrian crossings will be adapted to enhance safety and accessibility.
Taking advantage of the works, the roadway will be reorganized to create a parallel parking lane along the boulevard, improving safety for vehicle access and exit. Additionally, 14 new parking spaces will be created near the intersections with San Fructuoso, San Ildefonso, and San Asturio Serrano streets, as well as near the Galerías León.
The existing 9 parking spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility in the area will be adapted to comply with current accessibility regulations. The total intervention area covers approximately 36,660 square meters, of which 22,725 square meters are asphalt.
The renovation of the pavement, sidewalks, and kerbs is expected to promote quieter, less polluting, and safer circulation, encouraging pedestrian mobility and accessibility, which are key objectives of the 'Alcalá Mejora sus Barrios' plan.
