The Festival of Ideas and Culture will take place this weekend in Rivas-Vaciamadrid after an administrative court rejected an appeal that sought to halt the event.

The ruling by the Public Procurement Administrative Tribunal of the Community of Madrid has cleared the way for the event, scheduled for June 26 and 27. The tribunal dismissed the challenge filed by the opposition, citing that it was submitted after the legally mandated deadline.
This decision lifts the automatic suspension triggered by the initial filing. According to municipal sources, the contract was finalized on May 27, whereas the appeal was not registered until June 23, just three days before the festival was set to begin.

"Today Rivas wins, culture wins, and freedom of expression wins. But we must not forget what happened: the Popular Party tried to cancel a free festival open to the public with an appeal filed past the deadline."

The Rivas-Vaciamadrid City Council warned that a forced cancellation would have caused economic losses exceeding 200,000 euros, impacting suppliers, participants, and local attendees. The program, featuring debates, music, and journalism, will proceed as originally planned.
