The decision follows Vox's rejection of a budget modification worth nearly 68 million euros during the last plenary session. The People's Party considers this refusal, along with other actions, incompatible with the governing agreement.
Víctor Acosta is scheduled to appear on Monday, June 22nd, at 11:00 AM in front of the City Hall to present his perspective. Despite losing his deputy mayor position and the Strategic Projects and European Affairs Councilorship, Acosta will retain the Presidency of the Municipal Sports City Autonomous Body and his role as councilor-president of District II. The other two Vox councilors keep their responsibilities in Economy, Alcalá Development, Youth, and Childhood.
Sources from the People's Party indicate that Vox has stalled negotiations for the 2026 municipal budgets since December, conditioning talks on direct access to municipal accounting. The local government and the Transparency Council of the Community of Madrid deem this request outside standard procedures.
Unable to approve new accounts, the government pushed forward the credit modification. The PP regrets that after initially supporting the proposal in committee, Vox voted against it in the plenary, and its spokesperson issued a statement questioning the executive's integrity without providing evidence.
Sources close to Judith Piquet state the dismissal is an 'institutional consequence of unilateral decisions by the Vox spokesperson'. The PP emphasizes its desire to uphold the 2023 governing agreement and maintain institutional stability.
Vox sources offer a different view, describing the budget modification as rushed and presented 'behind the back of its governing partner'. They allege the PP is blocking the accounts of the Municipal Sports City Autonomous Body and denying them necessary accounting information.
The PP-Vox pact led to Judith Piquet becoming the first female mayor of Alcalá de Henares in 2023. The coalition faces its most critical moment less than a year before the 2027 municipal elections, with prorated budgets and pending investments.
The municipal government assures it will continue working to ensure public services and fulfill commitments. The crisis has garnered regional and national attention, with media reporting on Víctor Acosta's dismissal and the internal conflict within the government of a major city led by PP and Vox in the Community of Madrid.
