Coslada and San Fernando de Henares will jointly celebrate LGTBIQ+ Pride between June 17th and 20th with a diverse program including workshops, institutional acts, culture, and inclusive sports.
The joint program, presented by the Equality and Diversity councilors of Coslada, Emi Escudero, and San Fernando de Henares, Guadalupe Piñas, in collaboration with the Fundación Triángulo, aims to raise visibility and advocate for the rights of the community.
Activities will kick off with an introductory workshop on sexual diversity, particularly aimed at young people. On Friday, June 19th, the traditional LGTBI flag raisings will take place at both town halls, at 11:30 AM in San Fernando de Henares and 12:30 PM in Coslada, followed by the reading of a manifesto for equality.
That same Friday, the Gabriel Celaya Cultural Center in San Fernando will host a monologue by Sil de Castro at 7:00 PM. Simultaneously, the Rafael Alberti Municipal Library will offer the free storytelling session ‘The boy who DID NOT want to be blue. The girl who DID NOT want to be pink’.
Inclusive sports will have its space on Saturday, June 20th, with the Open Pride handball tournament at the Valleaguado Municipal Sports Center in Coslada at 10:00 AM.
The day will culminate with the Great Pride Party in Coslada's Plaza Mayor, featuring performances by Nina Vagina (8:30 PM), Jimena Amarillo (9:30 PM), and Eme DJ (11:00 PM - 1:00 AM), along with a solidarity market and face painting.
Libraries in both municipalities are participating with the 'A Book Pride' initiative. The Rafael Alberti Library in San Fernando will host a display until June 30th, while the Luisa Carnés Library in Coslada will feature an exhibition with LGTBIQ+ themes from June 16th to 30th.
“
"It is not just a party, but also serves to claim the progress made and all that still needs to be built in terms of equal rights."
“
"We celebrate diversity, but furthermore Coslada and San Fernando want to take a stance on what is happening. These events are an opportunity to continue advancing in visibility, respect, and rights, as well as for institutions to generate safe, free, and diverse spaces."
Both municipalities aim to establish Pride as a celebration of coexistence and dignity, as well as a demand for rights.
