Alcalá de Henares hosted the first Gluten-Free Producers Fair last Saturday, an event that brought together hundreds of people at the Plaza de Palacio to showcase the quality and variety of gluten-free pastries and bread.
The initiative, aimed at making Alcalá de Henares a more accessible, generous, and welcoming city, was attended by Deputy Mayor and Health Councilor, Isabel Ruiz Maldonado, and Citizen Participation Councilor, Esther de Andrés. Both highlighted the potential of gluten-free tourism and the municipal support for events that promote inclusion and artisanal commerce.
The fair's program included professional and educational activities such as the round table ‘The Art of Gluten-Free Pastry Making’, a guided tasting of artisan breads, the presentation of the SINGLU app, and talks on family nutrition and entrepreneurship in the gluten-free sector.
Catering to families, a dedicated children's area featured collaborative games, creative workshops like stop motion and mug decoration, giant building blocks, and karaoke.

"Initiatives like this turn Alcalá de Henares into a more accessible, generous, and welcoming city. Gluten-free tourism is an increasingly accepted reality, and many families plan their trips and choose their destinations based on the safe and quality offerings available to them."
“
"Betting on these types of events is also betting on a modern, open city model adapted to people's real needs. That is why from the Alcalá de Henares City Council we want to continue supporting activities that promote inclusion, boost artisanal trade, and give visibility to the celiac community."
The fair was supported by various entities and brands in the sector, including Foody, Yucax.com, La Vecina Celíaca, Naturasi, Plademunt, San Fries, Ardemos, Maná Productos Sin Gluten, Okashi Sanda, Bastardi, El Japo, Panadería JM, Singlu App, Gastrobar 21, Gullón, Glutfree, and Lume.
