Alcalá de Henares Celebrates 41st Senior Week with Cultural and Sports Activities

The program, running from September 30 to October 4, includes new features like museum visits and petanque championships.

The Department of Seniors of the City Council of Alcalá de Henares has presented the 41st edition of the Senior Week, which will take place from September 30 to October 4 with a program of cultural, sports, and leisure activities.

Under the slogan ‘A week to enjoy, and celebrate’, the initiative will offer a comprehensive program including traditional events such as the opening speech, the tribute to centenarians, and the celebration of Golden Anniversaries.
The program will kick off on Wednesday, September 30, with sports activities and the promotion of healthy habits, including Nordic walking, gymnastics, and Zumba. A workshop on making botanical coasters will also be held, and a visit to the Motorcycle Museum will be offered. In the afternoon, the Plaza de Cervantes will host a dance with an orchestra, accompanied by the Orquesta UHF.
On Thursday, October 1, International Day of Older Persons, the day will begin with the guided tour “Cuéntame” and continue with more visits to the Motorcycle Museum and Zumba and gymnastics sessions. At 12:00 PM, Parque O’Donnell will be the venue for the opening speech, delivered by copla artist Sonia Andrade, a resident of Alcalá de Henares. After the speech, a tasting of migas and soft drinks will be offered.
In the afternoon, at 5:30 PM, the tribute to the centenarians of Alcalá will take place, followed by the show “40 years of life” by Óscar Recio.
On Friday, October 2, the program will include sports and cultural activities, as well as two new proposals: a Petanque Championship and a Companion Walk. The afternoon will be dedicated to the celebration of Golden Anniversaries at the Teatro Salón Cervantes, where over 80 couples will celebrate their 50 years of shared life. The day will conclude with music in the Plaza de Cervantes by the Orquesta Sabor, Sabor.
On Saturday, October 3, it will begin with a hiking route from Parque O’Donnell to the Royal Botanical Garden Juan Carlos I. In the afternoon, the Paco de Lucía Auditorium will host a tribute to Spanish copla with María Gracia, while the Teatro Salón Cervantes will present the play “¿Nos damos un viaje?” by Santi Rodríguez. The night will end with the Orquesta Amanecer in the Plaza de Cervantes.
The 41st Senior Week will conclude on Sunday, October 4, at the Teatro Salón Cervantes with the performance of “Lo que callamos a los 30”, starring Lara Dibildos, Marta Valverde, and other performers.
All activities are free, although some require prior registration. Detailed information on schedules, registration, and ticket collection will be available through the channels of the Department of Seniors and the municipal website.
The celebration is made possible by the joint work of municipal professionals, volunteers, boards of directors of the Municipal Senior Centers, and various areas of the City Council, including Tourism, Social Services, Environment, Culture, Equality, and Citizen Security.
