The recent May Bank Holiday, spanning from Friday, May 1st, to Sunday, May 3rd, drew a significant number of people to Alcalá de Henares. While Friday enjoyed sunny weather, Saturday and Sunday were marked by continuous rain. The Complutum Renacida program, organized by the Alcalá de Henares City Council in collaboration with various entities such as the Community of Madrid, the Archaeological and Paleontological Museum, and the University of Alcalá, offered a wide range of activities.
The historical reenactment camp featured over 130 reenactors from across Spain and international associations, providing a complete immersion into the era. These activities helped position the Antiquarium of Complutum as a key interpretive center for the Roman City of Complutum.
According to data from the Tourism Department's people counting system, 75,528 entries were recorded on Friday, May 1st, to the Historic Quarter, the Roman City of Complutum, and municipal resources. On Saturday, May 2nd, the figure was 53,334 people, and on Sunday, May 3rd, 51,503 visitors. In total, over 180,000 people visited the city during the long weekend.
“"Abraham Cupeiro's concert captivated an audience that could have filled the Archaeological Museum's capacity four times over."
The Archaeological and Paleontological Museum of the Community of Madrid was one of the main points of interest. Despite the rains on Saturday and Sunday, which affected attendance at certain times, hotel and hospitality demand remained high, consolidating a strong performance for the local tourism sector.
This positive trend aligns with data from the National Institute of Statistics, which shows a 14% growth in overnight stays in Alcalá de Henares during January and February. The city, recognized as a World Heritage Site, continues to extend its strong tourism momentum into months that traditionally saw less activity, reinforcing the positive trend observed in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
