San Sebastián de los Reyes is set for a month of free cultural activities centered around books this April, featuring children's shows, workshops, exhibitions, and a street fair with discounts, while also celebrating the 50th anniversary of its municipal libraries.

From April 6 until the end of the month, the municipal libraries of San Sebastián de los Reyes have organized over twenty proposals to commemorate Children's and Youth Book Month. The agenda ranges from storytelling and workshops to concerts, puppet shows, and exhibitions, designed for the enjoyment of all ages.
A significant highlight of this edition is the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the town's libraries. To mark this occasion, an exhibition tracing half a century of local history through texts and images has been inaugurated, available to the public in the lobby of the Marcos Ana Library between April 6 and 26.
The children's program is a cornerstone of the event. The youngest, aged 1 to 3, can attend “Bebecuentos” with Estrella Escriña, taking place on Wednesday, April 15, at the Claudio Rodríguez Library and on Thursday, April 16, at the Marcos Ana Library. For children aged 6 and up, the Claudio Rodríguez Library will host a mythology workshop led by Ana Zugasti, focusing on classical mythology monsters, on Thursday, April 16. Both activities require prior registration.
Other family shows include Héctor Urién's presentation of “Instrucciones para volar en alfombra mágica” on Saturday, April 18, at the Marcos Ana Library, an English storytelling session on Monday, April 20, and Juan Catalina's puppet show “El caballero andante Don Quijote” on Thursday, April 23. The weekend of April 25 and 26 will feature Zaguán Teatro'sVerde que te quiero verde” at the Marcos Ana Library, and Caracolino will offer a family concert in Plaza Concha Espina.
Inclusion is a key aspect of this edition, with several activities featuring Spanish Sign Language (LSE) interpreters. These include Inma Muñoz's storytelling “Los libros bombáticos,” aimed at people with different abilities, on Friday, April 17, at the Marcos Ana Library, and the Story Day on Tuesday, April 21. Additionally, the collective reading of El Quijote on April 23 will include fragments in an Easy Reading format.
Adults also have their dedicated events, such as a talk-workshop by Raquel López on stories and emotions on Tuesday, April 14, at the Marcos Ana Library. On Wednesday, April 22, Ana Zugasti and Miguel Ángel Ramos will present “El Quijote de Strauss.” The main event for adults will be the XIX Shared Reading of Don Quijote de la Mancha on Thursday, April 23, Book Day, at the Town Hall Plenary Hall, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
The Book Fair will be set up in the Dehesa Vieja area, around Plaza Concha Espina, from April 20 to 27. Five local bookstores will offer a 10% discount on purchases, plus a free bag and bookmark. On Book Day, Thursday, April 23, a rose will be given with each book purchased. There will also be a raffle for five prizes of 75 euros among customers who make purchases at participating establishments during these days.
The fair week will include colloquiums at the Pepe Machado Press Room in the El Caserón building, featuring poets on Tuesday, April 21, and authors on Wednesday, April 22. For children aged 8 to 12, a drawing contest on the theme “The San Sebastián de los Reyes of the Future” has been organized, with winners announced on Friday, May 8. Finally, the “ArTeAndo” exhibition, featuring works from the V Conectea Foundation Contest, will be displayed at the Marcos Ana Library starting April 27.
