This initiative, promoted by the Department for Seniors, seeks to create a new meeting point where people from different generations can engage in conversations about scientific and emotional topics. Access to these sessions is free, encouraging active participation from attendees.
The first session, titled Weighing Love, Measuring Emotion, will approach neuroscience from a popular science perspective. It will take place from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM in the center's television room, located at Calle de la Retama, 12.
The content will revolve around recent advancements in brain research, particularly concerning the ability to measure neural activity and understand processes linked to emotions. The session aims to make accessible topics traditionally considered difficult to explain from a scientific standpoint.
The discussion format is participatory, beginning with a fifteen-minute introduction by the speaker to contextualize the topic. Afterward, a discussion will open where attendees can intervene and share their thoughts. A notable feature is that participants themselves will decide the topics for future sessions at the end of each meeting, thus adapting the program to their interests.
The sessions will be moderated by Dr. Ignacio Prieto, a molecular biology specialist with experience in pharmaceutical research and scientific instrumentation. His role will be to guide the debate and facilitate a smooth exchange of ideas. The Colmenar Viejo City Council emphasizes that this proposal seeks to create a shared learning environment where young and old can engage in equal dialogue, promoting participation and active aging through cultural and educational initiatives.
