The works, with a base tender budget of €399,982, will focus on modernizing facilities that no longer comply with current animal protection and welfare regulations. The project covers an area of 345 square meters and is expected to take six months to complete.
Key interventions include the creation of two new quarantine rooms, one for dogs and one for cats, featuring independent access and isolation for better health control. A dedicated space for the CER (Capture-Neuter-Return) program for cat care will also be established.
The renovation also includes expanding the kennels to 24 modules with guillotine doors for direct access to outdoor runs. The main sliding access door will be modernized to comply with European standard UNE-EN 13241-1, and a new underfloor heating system will be installed, alongside comprehensive upgrades to electrical, plumbing, and sanitation systems.
Improvements will extend to the dogs' outdoor recreation areas, with the installation of two pergolas and renovation of existing sandpits. Cats will gain a new room connected to an outdoor space. Additionally, a new storage area for cleaning and disinfection products will be built.
Environment Councilor Violeta Bonet emphasized the reform's necessity to "improve the welfare of the dogs and cats cared for at the CPA" and dignify animal care. This project underscores the Leganés City Council's commitment to animal welfare and the "zero-kill" objective.
