The proposal, put forward by the mayor, aims to jointly finance with the Community of Madrid the implementation of two-way traffic on the Vereda de la Torrecilla, a livestock trail connecting to Perales del Río. This measure is considered transitional to alleviate traffic problems in the neighborhood, especially after the regional government dismissed municipal appeals to include a roundabout on the M-301, which would link to the Los Olivos industrial estate and Los Molinos.
This alternative emerges as a response to what the local government has described as an "unsustainable" situation, exacerbated since the construction of the M-301 bypass. Implementing two-way traffic would restore connectivity similar to that which existed before the passage was altered by damage from storm Filomena in 2021.
“"Technicians have been there, and there is enough width to make it two-way."
According to the City Council, the action is technically and economically feasible, with an estimated cost of 800,000 euros. This amount would allow the work to be carried out without delay if there is political will from the regional Executive. The proposal has been formally communicated to the Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Interior, requesting a meeting to discuss this approach.
The Getafe City Council has emphasized that this measure does not replace its main demand: the construction of the roundabout on the M-301, considered essential for reasons of mobility and territorial equity. The local government has described this infrastructure as a "legal and moral obligation" of the Community of Madrid to the neighborhood. If the Community does not cover the cost of the provisional solution, the City Council has warned that it will consider funding the expense itself.
