The local government of Getafe has started the procedure to name José Bordalás as 'Adoptive Son,' an honor recognizing his outstanding work at the helm of Getafe CF and his strong identification with the municipality.

This initiative, driven by the municipal Executive, aims to honor the coach's figure, whose influence extends beyond sporting achievements and aligns with values such as effort and overcoming challenges that the Corporation associates with the city. This designation is one of the most significant institutional recognitions the locality can bestow.

"He has built a bond with Getafe that goes far beyond the dugout. The coach represents a way of understanding work and resilience in the face of difficulties that perfectly matches the municipality's identity."

The decision is based on a remarkable sporting career. The Council highlights the so-called “promotion miracle” in the 2016/17 season, when the coach took over the team in relegation positions to Segunda B and led them back to the elite in just a few months. His return in 2023, during another critical moment, culminated in a dramatic salvation that kept the club in Primera División.
Furthermore, under his leadership, Getafe achieved its best historical classification in the 2018/19 season, securing a fifth-place finish with 59 points, which opened the doors to the memorable EuroGeta. The City Council specifically emphasizes the 2019/20 Europa League tie against Ajax, a night that once again placed Getafe's name on the European stage.
The proposal has the support of the Federation of Fan Clubs, which backs the recognition of such an important figure for the club and the city. The Council notes that the coach has been linked to the 'azulón' badge for over eight seasons and considers him the main architect of Getafe's presence in Primera División in 21 of the last 22 campaigns.
The next step will be to submit the proposal to the relevant municipal bodies for final approval, in accordance with the Regulations on Honors and Distinctions. If the procedure is completed, this recognition will add a new milestone to the coach's deep connection with Getafe, this time from an institutional perspective.
