Currently, citizens can already request their population registration certificate online or at the machines available at the Getafe City Hall and Civic Centers. The main novelty will be the ability to complete the entire registration process online, representing a significant advancement in electronic administration.
The mayor, Sara Hernández, announced this measure during the State of the City Council session, emphasizing that improving citizen services, both in-person and online, is a fundamental work axis. "The online Register offers a very useful resource for current and new residents," she stated.
This initiative aims to solve issues such as the high demand for new registrations in the municipal register, which in summer alone, with the arrival of students at the Carlos III University, exceeds 600 applications. The measure will also alleviate appointment waiting times, especially given Getafe's growing population, which has already surpassed 200,000 inhabitants.
The new online population registration system will feature all necessary security measures. Although the process will not be immediate like in-person appointments with all documentation ready, it will allow the process to be completed from home once the information is verified. The Citizen Service Department (SAC) will be reinforced with technicians specialized in electronic administration and Municipal Register management.
Individuals over 65 years old, those with disabilities, or those who demonstrate an urgent need, will still be able to attend the City Hall in person without an appointment to carry out this and other procedures.
