These grants, which can amount to up to €2,500 per home, are intended for modifications such as replacing bathtubs with shower trays or widening doorways to improve home mobility, for instance, for wheelchair users. The subsidized works were carried out between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2026.
A significant novelty in this call for applications was the advance payment of 50% of the grant for unexecuted works. This measure aims to ensure that families needing to carry out these adaptations, but lacking immediate personal funds, are not excluded from the program.
The subsidies are part of the ‘Getafe Rehabilita’ program, a municipal initiative focused on improving the habitability, sustainability, and accessibility of homes in the city. For this program, the council has allocated a budget of €325,000 for the current call, increasing the subsidy amounts from previous years.
The Councilor for Housing, Gema Cáceres, stated that the municipal policy focuses on "ensuring that no one has to leave their home" due to inadequate conditions, while also promoting the construction of public housing and enhancing the quality of life in older neighborhoods.
The ‘Getafe Rehabilita’ program also includes other lines of action. A call prior to the summer provided grants for window replacement (maximum €1,500 per home) and for interior insulation of buildings constructed in 1996 or earlier. The latter offers subsidies ranging from €2,000 to €2,500.
Additionally, a specific call for neighborhood communities is underway for the installation of elevators and facade improvements, with a budget of €425,000. The deadline for submitting applications for this initiative is October 20.
