The Getafe City Council has officially begun the process to bestow the title of 'Adoptive Son' upon José Bordalás, the current coach of Getafe CF, in recognition of his outstanding career and dedication to the city.

This distinction aims to honor the coach's "extraordinary" sporting contribution, his loyalty to the club, and his "deep identification with the sentiment, culture of effort, and spirit of overcoming challenges of the municipality's residents".
Bordalás's tenure with the team has been a "success story articulated in two fundamental stages marked by his commitment during critical moments". In his first spell, he led the "promotion miracle" in the 2016/17 season, taking the team from relegation spots in Segunda B back to the top flight in just nine months.

"His return in 2023 once again demonstrated his personal roots with the city, taking over in a critical situation with only seven matches remaining and achieving a dramatic salvation that ensured the club's survival in the top category."

Under his leadership, the club experienced its most brilliant chapters, achieving its best historical classification in the 2018/19 season with a fifth-place finish and a record 59 points. This success allowed "EuroGeta" to return to continental competition, leaving behind the "legendary tie" of the 2019/20 Europa League against Ajax Amsterdam.
The victory at the Coliseum and the "display of resistance" at the Johan Cruyff Arena, where the team secured its passage to the round of 16, "once again placed Getafe's name before the eyes of the European elite, in an evolution that only the pandemic could halt".
The municipal initiative is supported by the Federation of Fan Clubs, which emphasizes the importance of a "fundamental" member of the city's life being forever enshrined in its history. With over eight seasons defending the crest, Bordalás is considered one of the main architects of Getafe's presence in Primera División for 21 of the last 22 seasons. The proposal will now be submitted to the relevant municipal bodies for official approval.
