Student Elena Igelmo, from the Public Institute José Hierro in Getafe, has traveled to the NASA Space Center in Houston thanks to her participation in the educational project 'Reto Marte', promoted by the Getafe City Council.

The initiative 'Reto Marte', promoted by the Getafe City Council, aims to foster STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) vocations among young people. In this edition, over 150 students from Getafe participated, developing innovative proposals inspired by space exploration.
Elena Igelmo and her partner David received special recognition in the national phase of the project, held at the headquarters of the Local Agency for Employment and Training (ALEF) in Getafe. This award opened the doors to Houston. Elena has already experienced it, while David will do so next year.

"One day the director came to class and told us that the Getafe City Council was proposing a project that combined communication with science and technology. She encouraged me to participate, especially to broaden my horizons and learn new things."

During her stay at the NASA Space Center, Elena interacted with students from other countries and gained insight into the interdisciplinary work required for space exploration. "One of the things that impacted me most about the trip was seeing the sheer number of people working towards these goals, the diversity of individuals, and all the engineers and scientists needed for a single task," she detailed about the inspiring experience.
The Getafe City Council has announced the call for the 3rd edition of 'Reto Marte', under the slogan "Getafe, Capital of Mars," which will take place on November 3, 4, and 5. The event will invite students to propose solutions to Earth's challenges inspired by space exploration.
