The San Martín de la Vega City Council has acquired a new, state-of-the-art unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) for its Local Police. This equipment will enable flight operations based on artificial intelligence, automatically detecting people or vehicles and performing intelligent tracking, even predicting movements in case of lost contact.
The total investment amounts to 2,689 euros, co-funded by the City Council and the Community of Madrid through the ESICAM179 program. According to the Councilor for Citizen Security, Sergio Neira, this equipment will bolster police applications such as surveillance and control of large crowds, traffic management, and search and rescue operations for emergencies. The drone's high definition and optics will provide detailed information of the search area.
The model acquired is a DJI Mavic 4 Pro, equipped with a 100MP (4/3 CMOS) Hasselblad camera, 6k/60fps HDR video, and a dual telephoto camera with large CMOS sensors (1/1.3” and 1/1.5”) allowing 360º rotation. It features omnidirectional obstacle detection, even in night scenes, and offers a flight autonomy of 51 minutes thanks to its three batteries and charging hub.
Sergio Neira added that training will be provided to officers to obtain the necessary drone pilot certifications for non-civilian operations, in accordance with Royal Decree 517/2024.
This acquisition joins other recent security enhancements, including the purchase of new bulletproof vests (investment of 25,587.87 euros), the expansion of the security camera network (75,976.48 euros), the upcoming acquisition of two electric motorcycles (18,097 euros), and the recent addition of twelve new local police officers.
