The blood reserve situation in the Community of Madrid is critical, with six blood types (0+, 0-, A+, A-, AB- and B-) on red alert. The regional Transfusion Center has issued an urgent call to increase donations and reach optimal levels, as most blood types have low reserves.
Blood types AB+ and B+ are in a more favorable position with regular donations. However, the need for donations is pressing for the other groups, requiring an additional effort from the public to ensure care for patients needing transfusions for surgical procedures, hospital emergencies, or medical treatments.
The donation process, lasting approximately 20 minutes, requires donors not to be fasting or have consumed alcohol. Donors must complete a health questionnaire and undergo a brief medical examination. The actual donation takes about 10 minutes.
The Hospital Universitario Fundación Alcorcón has donation points available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and on Tuesdays from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM. During July, August, and September, the hours will be Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
“"Donating saves lives. The beneficiaries of this resource are patients who require hospital emergencies, surgical interventions, or transfusions as part of their treatments."
