The controversy arose after the Popular Party denounced the full-time appointment of an advisor since February, with an annual salary exceeding 44,000 euros. The Más Madrid party, to which the advisor is linked, defended the legality of the appointment and the advisor's political background.
“"Hiring practices that raise ethical doubts."
Podemos Getafe believes that, while these appointments may comply with legal requirements for discretionary positions, they generate ethical concerns that must be promptly addressed to maintain public trust. The party has been firm in rejecting what it calls “cronyism and favors” in public institutions.
“"The left cannot do the same as the right; cronyism and favors are not ethical."
The spokesperson for Podemos Getafe highlighted that “not all of the left is the same” and insisted on the need for rigorous ethical standards within the municipal corporation. This stance marks a new phase in the controversy, as the criticism now comes from one of the local government's own partners, which is formed by the PSOE with the support of Más Madrid-Compromiso con Getafe and Podemos.
While Más Madrid has defended the hiring based on the advisor's background, municipal sources have noted that the appointment of trusted positions falls to political groups. However, Podemos insists that the issue extends beyond legality, impacting the public image of the institution, especially when there is a direct personal relationship with a municipal spokesperson.
