The Council of Ministers will soon authorize an investment of 44 million euros for the renovation of the Embajadores and Laguna stations, key points on the C-5 commuter line. These actions aim to prepare the infrastructure for the arrival of new high-capacity trains, which will be 200 meters long.
The main objective of the works is the extension of the platforms at both stations. At Laguna, the platforms will reach 210 meters, a necessary measure to accommodate the double-decker, higher-capacity trains that Renfe plans to introduce from September. At Embajadores, the platforms will grow by approximately 30 meters. These improvements are intended to alleviate the line's high occupancy.
The project also includes significant advancements in safety and accessibility. Embajadores will gain four new emergency exits and evacuation spaces for people with reduced mobility. Laguna station will benefit from two new elevators, four emergency staircases, new evacuation routes, a ventilation shaft, and an automatic fire and heat detection system.
Adif will also work on the railway tunnel connecting both stations, renewing the ballast, repairing structural cracks, and reinforcing waterproofing along 2.7 kilometers of infrastructure.
Although the works are focused on the capital, they will have a direct impact on the thousands of travelers from Alcorcón who use the C-5 daily. These works are part of a comprehensive line modernization plan with a total investment exceeding 1.3 billion euros. C-5 users in Alcorcón continue to experience restrictions due to ongoing works between Villaverde Alto and Embajadores, which require transfers until mid-August.
