The Ministry of Health has tendered the contract for these works for an amount of 1,999,631 euros (VAT included), with an estimated execution period of 225 days. The works will be carried out in four phases, extending throughout this year and into 2027, seeking to minimize any disruption to the hospital's care activities.
This investment will allow Severo Ochoa Hospital to incorporate two new operating rooms and resize the Major Ambulatory Surgery area to respond to the growing volume of surgical activity. Additionally, the Pain Unit, which is part of this area, will be adapted, bringing the infrastructure in line with the hospital's current needs and the latest medical technologies.
Neighborhood and social groups in Leganés have been demanding improvements to the hospital complex for years, considering it has become too small to serve the entire local population.
Severo Ochoa Hospital, operational since 1987, serves a population of over 190,000 inhabitants. The renovation is crucial for modernizing its facilities and meeting the increasing patient demand. The hospital's main building features three cross-shaped modules and five floors, housing over 400 beds and fifteen operating rooms equipped with advanced technology.
Works in the surgical block will include the integration of the two new operating rooms into the existing CMA and Pain Unit spaces, as well as a redistribution of spaces to maintain current activity and adapt it to new requirements. In the Major Ambulatory Surgery area, planned works include space redistribution to accommodate new needs, comprising at least 14 fully equipped armchair stations, 14 fully equipped bed stations, a soiled utility room, a nursing station, a storage room, and two changing rooms. The Pain Unit will consist of three medical consultation rooms, a technical room, a secretariat, and a patient waiting room.
