During these days, the city will be transformed into a picturesque setting of early 19th-century Madrid. The Goyaesque Market, one of the main attractions, will move this year to the Plaza del Milenio, next to the San Nicasio MetroSur stop, offering a more spacious and comfortable area for visitors.
The market will feature a varied program including parades, continuous entertainment, children's games, and a carefully selected array of artisan and gastronomic stalls, all inspired by the Goyaesque era. The aim is to faithfully recreate the historical atmosphere of the capital in 1808.
“"This is a unique weekend in the year, where Leganés transforms to revive its history and highlight our roots."
One of the novelties of this edition is the historical reenactment in homage to the Rejón Brothers, which will be enriched with the inclusion of local figures such as Nicomedes Soto Garrote and Pedro Díaz Vicenti, market gardeners from Leganés who actively participated in the events of May 2, 1808. The event will begin on Saturday at 5:30 PM in the Plaza de San Nicasio, next to the hermitage where their remains rest, and will culminate in the Plaza Mayor.
Subsequently, around 6:45 PM, the Fiesta de las Mayas will begin, a tradition declared a Cultural Interest Asset. This year, the festival will feature the participation of the Ukrainian Children's Choir Peredzvin, adding a new cultural component. The Regional Houses of Leganés will create altars with rich floral and symbolic decorations, around which traditional music and dance performances will take place.
As a new feature, Leganés will host the Gabarreros Festival from El Espinar, declared of Regional Interest. This celebration, starting on Saturday at 12:00 PM, will pay tribute to the ancient forest workers dedicated to collecting and transporting firewood. There will be demonstrations, traditional attire, and reenactments of traditional trades, highlighting the ethnographic heritage and the skill of the woodcutters.
