Las Rozas Awarded Three Blue Pajaritas for Recycling Leadership

The Las Rozas City Council has been distinguished with the highest award, Three Blue Pajaritas, for its outstanding commitment to paper and cardboard recycling, solidifying its environmental management leadership.

The Spanish Association of Pulp, Paper and Cardboard Manufacturers (ASPAPEL) and the Spanish Association of Paper and Cardboard Recyclers (REPACAR) have recognized the municipality of Las Rozas in the tenth edition of the Blue Pajaritas program. This award, which values the quality and efficiency of waste management, highlights the council's continuous efforts in recycling.
For the fourth consecutive year, Las Rozas has achieved the Three Blue Pajaritas distinction. The Councilor for the Environment, Jaime Santamarta, accepted the award at an event attended by key figures in the circular economy field, such as Alejandro Dorado, Commissioner for the Circular Economy of the Ministry for Ecological Transition, and Miguel Gómez-Pavón, Deputy Director General of Strategy and Industrial Ecosystems of the Ministry of Industry and Tourism.
Data shows a significant increase in the paper and cardboard recycling rate in Las Rozas, which has risen by 37.2% in the last five years. The current figure stands at 31.06 kg per inhabitant per year, considerably exceeding the national average of 23.68 kg. In 2025, a total of 3,076,382 kg of this material was collected.
The municipality is equipped with 626 paper and cardboard containers strategically distributed, totaling a volume of 2,160.10 cubic meters, adapted to the different characteristics of each area.
Other municipalities in Madrid also received recognition in this edition. Coslada, Fuenlabrada, and Getafe were awarded the Illustrious Pajarita, while Alcorcón, Leganés, Pinto, and Rivas-Vaciamadrid received three Pajaritas. Alcobendas and Madrid were honored with one Pajarita.
