Under the theme ‘Connecting with our pillars: Patient – Care – Professional – Environment’, the conference highlighted the importance of comprehensive, person-centered care, recognizing professionals leading improvements in healthcare.
The project ‘The teaching nurse as a link in the Emergency Department’, developed by nurses Vanesa Gil Sánchez, Silvia Morante Muñoz, and Laura Sereno Martín from Getafe University Hospital, received the Best Oral Communication Award.
Mar Rocha, deputy director to the Presidency of the Official College of Nursing of Madrid, inaugurated the event, praising the hospital's initiative and emphasizing that the theme reflects healthcare based on human connection.
The conference also addressed the growing role of patients in managing their health. The hospital's general director, Zita Quintela, explained the center's efforts to integrate user input through programs like the Patient Forum and schools for cancer patients and caregivers, where nurses play a crucial role.
Meanwhile, Nursing Director Patricia Fernán highlighted the profession's evolution, underscoring nurses' capacity to lead projects and the necessity of coordination to achieve excellence in care.
Technological innovation was another key focus. Dr. Myriam Fernández Martín, Director of Health Innovation for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa at Amazon Web Services (AWS) and a trained nurse, advocated for synergy between human care and technology. 'Behind every data point there is a story, and the right technology can amplify the human touch, never replace it,' she stated.
Fernández Martín also pointed out the need for connected data systems to leverage health information and strengthen nurses' presence in strategic decision-making.
The event concluded with practical workshops on caring for patients with dysphagia, ultrasound-guided techniques for catheter insertion, and care for ostomy patients, solidifying Getafe University Hospital's role as a driver of innovation and humanization in nursing.
