Under the title “Science in the Face of Natural Disasters,” the event, part of the European Researchers' Night 2026, will explore the contribution of scientific research to prevention, risk assessment, emergency management, and post-catastrophic event recovery.
The event, starting at 6:00 PM, will bring together emergency service professionals with researchers from the seven IMDEA Institutes. From the perspective of materials science and engineering, IMDEA Materials will showcase how advances in this field can enhance the resilience and safety of infrastructure exposed to extreme phenomena.
Firefighters will explain the challenges they face in their interventions, while scientists will present current scientific developments and explore how future innovations could further strengthen response and mitigation against natural disasters.
The event will take place in person at the Residencia de Estudiantes, located at Calle del Pinar 21-23, and can also be followed live via its channel. Attendance is free, although prior registration is required.
