The spokesperson for the PP in Getafe, Antonio José Mesa, has denounced that the city has become the municipality in southern Madrid with the highest crime rate, based on the latest crime statistics from the Ministry of the Interior.
According to the report's data, Getafe recorded 2,424 crimes in the first quarter of 2026, compared to 2,219 in the same period last year, representing a 9.2% increase.
The popular spokesperson attributes this rise to the mayor's "denialism and lack of measures," calling Getafe "the paradise for criminals" and "the most insecure city in the south."
The PP of Getafe highlights that crimes such as intentional homicides and completed murders have increased by 100%, sexual assaults with penetration by 200%, drug trafficking by 100%, vehicle thefts by 38.5%, robberies with force in homes and establishments by 16.7%, and petty thefts by 21.5%.
Mesa has strongly criticized the mayor's management, describing it as "unbearable" and "a danger to Getafe."
Furthermore, the popular spokesperson recalled that his party has presented up to 11 proposals in the Plenary session to combat insecurity, such as filling vacancies in the Local Police, which currently has a deficit of almost 120 officers, or providing more material resources for agents. These proposals, according to the PP, have been voted against by the mayor.
The party has also taken the issue to the Congress to demand more National and Local Police presence from Sánchez and the mayor, citing the "current abandonment."
The spokesperson expressed concern about how often Getafe appears in the crime news, mentioning recent cases such as drug dens, murders, and armed robberies in shops.
Finally, Mesa stated, "We do not want more insecurity in our streets," and that Getafe "deserves to be the safe city it once was." He added that they will continue to demand measures in the Plenary and Congress against the mayor's "denialism."
