The Maintenance Delegation of the Getafe City Council has completed the installation of a modern pergola at the El Bercial Fairground. The structure, composed of 16 large pillars, provides 12 significant shaded areas. As part of the project, the gravel ground has been compacted and benches have been added under the new canopy.
This improvement, which involved an investment of 314,600 euros, is now available to residents and features backlit signage. The Councilor for Maintenance, Roberto Fernández, highlighted that the initiative is part of an ongoing effort to make the city more welcoming and adapt it to offer greater climate comfort.
The new shaded space in El Bercial is part of a broader plan by the Getafe City Council to optimize the use of public spaces and create climate refuges. Other recent actions include the installation of a children's fountain in San Isidro Park, which will be complemented by new benches, and the replacement of shade screens in parks such as San Isidro, Victoria Kent Square, Los Espartales, and Los Molinos.
Last summer, a children's fountain was also installed in Huelva Street, which was very well-received, adding to other splash fountains in San Sebastián Square and Arboleda Street, as well as the fountain on Cataluña Street. Additionally, climate refuges have been established in the La Alhóndiga and Las Margaritas Civic Centers, and at the Getafe Joven Space, which offers technological resources. The Elderly People's Delegation has expanded its programming for July and August with 455 places distributed across 47 groups.
