A political group in Getafe is organizing a conference this Friday titled 'We Like Fruit' to discuss a healthier, more sustainable, and accessible food system, within the framework of Earth Day.
The initiative, which will take place at the group's premises on Leganés Street, 2, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, arises in response to Getafe's adherence to the ‘Plant Based Treaty’ and seeks to promote dialogue on the importance of food for health, the economy, and the territory.
“
"What we eat, where we buy it, who produces it, and how it reaches our homes is a political act. Food impacts health, the economy, and the territory, and for this reason, we want to open a space for dialogue to collectively consider how to advance towards a more just and sustainable system than the current one."
The event will feature the participation of various social entities and cooperatives, such as Biolíbere, the Getafe Cooperative Supermarket, Heliconia (a social and environmental consultancy), ACUREMA (Consumers and Users Association of Madrid Region), and Solidaridad y Esperanza (a community association in Getafe).
“
"The climate crisis cannot be understood without analyzing how we eat, and above all, how we produce what we eat. We must move towards more sustainable production systems and ethical, local consumption; this will be one of the key topics at the table with entities."
These organizations will gather to discuss and seek solutions that will allow progress towards a food model that benefits all citizens, promoting practices that are more respectful of the environment and health.
