Getafe City Council has approved the 'Gbecas' call for the 2026/2027 academic year, increasing its budget to 1.5 million euros and expanding aid to new categories.

The Getafe City Council has greenlit the 'Gbecas' program for the upcoming 2026/2027 academic year, allocating a budget of 1.5 million euros. This represents a 50% increase compared to the previous year and will fund new grants for expenses such as glasses, computer equipment, reading books, extracurricular activities, and summer camps.
The application period will open in the coming weeks. New additions to this year's grants include reading books, school-use computer and sports equipment, prescription glasses, hearing aids, extracurricular activities, craft supplies, and vacation camps. These benefits complement existing aid for school books and supplies, language learning, excursions, speech therapy, early attention, and specialized academic support.
Mayor Sara Hernández highlighted the usefulness and fairness of the 'Gbecas', explaining the program's enhancement. "We have decided to reinforce the program with a budgetary increase and the incorporation of new concepts to reach more families and support them during a stage as important as their children's education," she stated.
The new call will prioritize families with lower incomes, using income criteria to ensure aid reaches those most in need. However, support will be maintained for middle-income households facing significant financial strain at the start of the school year.
Furthermore, application procedures will be simplified for families who were beneficiaries in the previous academic year. For meal assistance, a supplementary grant of 400 euros will be provided to those who have already applied for the corresponding scholarship from the Community of Madrid.
According to City Council data, the 2025/2026 call directly benefited 1,927 students, an increase from the approximately 1,300 grants awarded in previous models.
