The Getafe City Council has awarded the construction of 203 public rental homes, strategically located opposite Carlos III University, with the aim of expanding the accessible housing stock in the locality.

The initiative, promoted by the municipal government (formed by PSOE, Más Madrid, and Podemos), anticipates that construction will begin before summer, once administrative procedures are completed. The lottery for the homes is expected to take place before the end of 2026.
These homes will be built on Avenida de la Ilustración and Calle Madrid, on a plot initially designated for private use. However, by decision of the local government, it was reoriented to public residential use, ensuring that the land always remains in public hands.

"This is a radically different model from that of the Community of Madrid. In Getafe, we do not give away public land to private companies to do business with rent, as with the Plan VIVE."

The Municipal Land and Housing Company (EMSV) will be responsible for promoting, building, and managing these homes, ensuring accessibility for Getafe residents. This project is part of the Municipal Housing Plan, which seeks to offer alternatives to rising private market prices and the lack of accessibility of other regional plans.
The municipal Plenary has approved a financing operation with the Council of Europe Development Bank for the EMSV, representing a significant achievement for the city, as it is one of the few municipalities in Spain to secure this type of financing for housing promotion.
