The Getafe City Council Plenary session has approved a budget reserve of €900,000 to enable double-lane traffic on Vereda de la Torrecilla, a key route connecting Perales del Río with the urban center.

The proposal, put forward by the municipal government (PSOE, Más Madrid, and Podemos), secured an absolute majority, with only VOX voting against it. The funding will be managed through a budget modification and is contingent upon authorization from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, with the request anticipated for the 23rd of this month.
This initiative gains particular importance given the current paralysis of works on the roundabout at the M-301, intended to connect with the Los Olivos industrial estate. Consequently, Vereda de la Torrecilla remains the sole direct route between Perales del Río and the center of Getafe.
Following damage sustained during Storm Filomena, the road was reopened with a single lane and a speed limit of 20 km/h. Mayor Sara Hernández hopes to obtain authorization for the works and the lifting of this speed restriction during her upcoming meeting with the Minister of Environment, Agriculture, and Interior, Carlos Novillo.
During the plenary debate, Hernández expressed concern over potential refusals from the Community of Madrid to authorize the connection between the M-301 roundabout and the Los Olivos industrial estate, warning that if this occurs, the roundabout would be delayed by a decade and fail to achieve its goal of linking Perales with Getafe.
The spokesperson for the Popular Party, Antonio José Mesa, questioned the absence of registered technical proposals with the Community of Madrid for widening the double lane and criticized the local government's frequent use of budget modifications. Councillor for Finance, Jorge Rodríguez, defended the legality and oversight of these procedures as a response to municipal unforeseen circumstances.
