The initiative, approved in the municipal plenary with the support of PSOE, Más Madrid, and Vox, and the abstention of the PP, highlights the need to regulate ratios in the first cycle of Early Childhood Education and establish constructive dialogue with sector workers.
The motion, jointly presented by PSOE and Más Madrid, requests the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports to promote a state regulation to set maximum ratios in the first cycle of Early Childhood Education. It also calls for a review of basic requirements for non-teaching educational staff, as well as for the facilities and school equipment of these centers.
From the City Council, the Community of Madrid is urged to open channels for dialogue with workers, the Early Childhood Education Labor Platform, and social partners. The goal is to evaluate demands that contribute to improving service quality. Furthermore, the regional government is asked to commit to a timeline for implementing these enhancements.
Another key point of the motion is the demand for the Community of Madrid to assume 100% funding for the first cycle of Early Childhood Education in the Public Network of Nurseries and Children's Homes. The local government of Fuenlabrada is asked to continue promoting the improvement of municipally managed educational buildings and to support actions carried out by workers and the Early Childhood Education Labor Platform in the locality.
The motion recalls the diversity of nursery models in the region, which include directly and indirectly managed centers by the Community of Madrid, children's homes, municipal schools under agreement, other municipal schools not integrated into the regional network, public schools with 0-3 units, and private centers with or without public funding.
