The Fuenlabrada Urban Art Museum (MAUF) has unveiled a new mural celebrating local agriculture and the figure of Benito Celestino Montero Martín, known as 'Acero', highlighting his dedication and the emblematic Fuenlabrada chard.

The artwork, titled Manos de Acero (Hands of Steel), is a creation by artist Christian Saldaña Santos, known artistically as Christian Sasa. This mural is strategically located on the party wall of a building at Calle Madrid, 1, opposite the Ferrer i Guardia senior citizens' center, becoming a cultural landmark in the city.
The mural's protagonist, Benito Celestino Montero Martín, was born in Fuenlabrada in 1932 and comes from a lineage of farmers. He has dedicated his life to cultivating vegetables, potatoes, and especially the renowned Fuenlabrada chard. His nickname, 'Acero' (Steel), reflects his unwavering constancy and commitment to the land.

Fuenlabrada chard is a regional and national benchmark, due to the quantity and quality of local production. Its seeds have been the identity legacy of generations of farmers like Celestino.

This project not only honors Celestino's trajectory but also underscores the importance of agriculture in Fuenlabrada, a city that has managed to preserve its rural heritage. The municipal initiative of the Agricultural Park, which covers 800 hectares of cultivated land, is a testament to the town's commitment to its agricultural tradition and to those who keep it alive.
