The Alcorcón team had already secured its qualification for the promotion playoffs to the Liga Femenina Challenge several weeks ago. However, it was not until the final matchday of the regular season that Esco Grupo Femenino Alcorcón learned its exact position in Group A of Superliga 2 and, consequently, the path that awaited it in the final phase.
They were unable to finish in second place, which would have been first without counting Segle XXI, because GEIEG Pacisa maintained its strong performance in the final rounds. This team from Girona will compete for one of the two promotion spots in a direct confrontation against the champion of Group B, Maristas Coruña. The loser of this tie and the other six qualified teams (from second to fourth in both groups) will contend for the remaining spot.
For Femenino Alcorcón, their opponent in the quarterfinals will be the historic Mariscos Antón Cortegada, who finished fourth in Group B. The first leg will be played at the Sara Gómez pavilion in Vilagarcía de Arousa on Saturday, May 2 at 7:30 PM. The return leg will take place on Saturday, May 9, also at 7:30 PM, at the La Canaleja pavilion, where a great atmosphere is expected to cheer on the home team.
Should Femenino Alcorcón overcome this quarterfinal match, they would face the winner of the quarterfinal tie between Cesur Distrito Olímpico (fourth in Group A) and Ibaizabal (second in Group B) in the semifinals. The Alcorcón team would also play the return leg at home, regardless of their opponent. These matches would be held on Saturdays, May 16 and 23.
In the hypothetical scenario that Femenino Alcorcón reaches the grand final, their opponent would come from the other side of the bracket, emerging from among Claret Benimaclet (third in Group A), Baloncesto Femenino León (third in Group B), and the loser of the promotion tie between GEIEG Pacisa and Maristas Coruña.
The competition format has changed significantly, as in previous editions, a final phase was organized at a single venue with the eight qualified teams. Despite this, Femenino Alcorcón brings the experience gained last year and great enthusiasm to make the leap to a demanding category like the Liga Femenina Challenge.
