The exhibition, the result of interdisciplinary work by 4th year ESO and 1st year Baccalaureate students, addresses the impact of the Franco regime in Getafe. The materials were created by the students, who have researched the municipality's past, connecting history, memory, and civic commitment. The exhibition will be open to the public from June 15th to 29th, from 09:00 to 20:30.
The project, which has utilized the Service-Learning methodology, has received collaboration from Donantes de Memoria (Memory Donors) of the Carlos III University of Madrid, as well as members of the Democratic Memory Table of the Getafe City Council and the Department of Youth and Democratic Memory.
During the initiative's development, students attended lectures by specialists such as forensic doctor Paco Etxeberria and social anthropologist Paco Ferrándiz. Journalist Rodrigo Terrasa, co-author of the graphic novel El abismo del olvido (The Abyss of Oblivion), also participated.
As part of the learning process, the students undertook the Getafe Memory Route, visiting sites linked to the municipality's recent history. The exhibition is the final outcome of this collective research, which includes testimonies, educational materials, and lectures.
A way of learning that goes beyond the textbook by researching the municipality's past, understanding its history, and telling it in the first person.
