The future Leganés Norte Sports Complex has sparked an intense debate in the town, with the PSOE denouncing alleged privatization and the local Government defending an administrative concession that benefits residents.
The socialists have expressed concern over the management of the new complex, which will be taken over by CD Leganés. They argue that, despite the initial promotion of the project as a success for the city, the reality is that ownership and management will be private, leaving the City Council without direct control over the property and outside public domain.
“
"The Executive's priority in sports matters is the 13.5 million for the Solagua wave pool megaproject while the rest of the facilities are in a deficient state of maintenance."
Furthermore, the PSOE considers the sports offering of the new facilities insufficient, which will include six tennis courts, an 11-a-side football pitch, and a pavilion with a multi-sport court. They have highlighted the absence of community demands such as paddle tennis courts, an indoor swimming pool, and an archery area.
For its part, the local Government, formed by the PP and ULEG, has clarified that it is an "administrative concession" and not a privatization. They have emphasized that the agreement is "historic and very beneficial for residents," as the City Council will be able to reclaim the facilities within 50 years.
“
"The practical day-to-day use will be by the residents, with the advantage that maintenance and surveillance will be handled by CD Leganés, as part of the canon payment."
The councilor for Public Works has assured that, at no cost to municipal coffers, the citizens of Leganés will have this sports facility before the end of the term. He also criticized the PSOE for its "incoherence" in opposing the Solagua pool while lamenting the lack of swimming pools.
