The political party Ganar Alcorcón has expressed its strong rejection of the Community of Madrid's recent decision to require a residency certificate to access the transport pass. According to the party, this measure imposes an additional barrier for many users and particularly hinders access to public transport for vulnerable groups and students from other regions.
Ganar Alcorcón argues that the impact of this policy may be even greater in municipalities like Alcorcón, where the fare zone system and the need to combine different modes of transport already increase the cost and complexity of daily travel. They criticize that this requirement adds unnecessary bureaucratic procedures and questions the universal nature of public transport, affecting those who rely on it for work or study.
We consider that this measure represents an additional barrier for numerous users and particularly hinders access to public transport for vulnerable groups and students from other regions.
Similarly, José María Alfaro, a representative from Alquila Bien, has also voiced criticism regarding the link between the transport pass and residency. Alfaro believes this decision particularly harms those who have had to move outside the Community of Madrid due to the impossibility of finding affordable rent, despite maintaining their work or academic activities in the region.
For its part, the Community of Madrid defends the measure, arguing that benefits should be directed towards those who contribute to the system's sustainability through their taxes. The regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has indicated that agreements with other autonomous communities will be studied to facilitate access to the youth pass for displaced university students without needing to change their residency registration, with existing agreements with bordering areas of Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León.
The news also reports on the upcoming Alcorcón Commerce Fashion Show this Thursday, an event aimed at boosting local businesses with fashion shows and live music. Additionally, the second edition of the contemporary dance festival 4x4 Festival by the company caraBdanza is announced, scheduled from June 18 to 20 in various public spaces across Alcorcón.
