With the arrival of summer and the end of the school year, the Municipal Libraries of Alcorcón are launching a new edition of their summer camps under the slogan ‘A Summer of Tales’. This activity is designed to offer children between 7 and 12 years old a fun and educational alternative that goes beyond simple entertainment.
The main objective of the initiative is to open the doors of imagination, spark curiosity, and turn libraries into dynamic spaces where stories are not only read but also invented, shared, and enjoyed. For two weeks, these cultural centers will cease to be places of silent reading to become vibrant settings where tales will take center stage through games, participatory dynamics, and creative experiences.
The Councilor for Culture and Festivities, Miriam Benítez, highlighted the city's continuous commitment to culture, even during the summer period. According to Benítez, this activity provides a valuable alternative for many families at the end of the school term, while also fostering the creation of bonds and positive experiences around books among the participants.
Under the coordination of Nelson Calderón, the camp will take place in two of the city's main libraries. The José Hierro Library will host activities from June 22nd to 26th, and subsequently, the Almudena Grandes Library will take over from June 29th to July 3rd. The sessions will run daily from 10 AM to 1 PM, always seeking new ways to bring children closer to the joy of reading and stimulate their creativity and expression.
In an era dominated by screens, initiatives like this reaffirm the power of stories to imagine other worlds, develop critical thinking, and strengthen social skills. Each book offers not just a narrative, but also questions, emotions, and discoveries that can lead to friendships.
Registration is now open and will continue until June 10th at the José Hierro Library. Due to limited spaces, places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
