According to a letter sent to the prison's management, the union confirmed that staff members have detected bed bugs in the module's cabin and the personnel's bathroom. These insects have reportedly been found on desks and furniture on numerous occasions, leading staff to manually remove them.
“"This situation creates an unsanitary and uncomfortable work environment."
The union organization has described this situation as an “unsanitary and uncomfortable” work environment, warning of potential health risks for employees. CSIF referenced the Law on Prevention of Occupational Risks, highlighting that bed bug presence can cause bites, allergic reactions, and generate stress and anxiety among staff due to constant concern about the infestation. Furthermore, a potential risk of disease transmission and a general deterioration of the work atmosphere have been noted.
The union also expressed dissatisfaction with the center's planned action for May 13, which involves wrapping chairs, armchairs, and other furniture before disinfestation, considering this measure insufficient. Therefore, CSIF has requested a thorough inspection of affected and adjacent areas, professional treatments by specialized companies, a monitoring plan to prevent new infestations, and transparent communication with employees regarding the measures taken.
