The campaign, involving 278 cities from 10 European countries, features informational tags on over 1,000 trees. These tags detail ecosystem services such as stored CO₂ and annual oxygen provision, quantified using the i-Tree Engine program.
In Spain, 20 entities are participating in the #EUTreeTag initiative, aiming to highlight the added value of trees in creating more livable urban spaces. Aranjuez is contributing with 10 tagged trees located throughout the municipality.
The official launch in Aranjuez included the placement of a tag on a common elm tree (Ulmus minor) in the Parque de la Aviación Española. This specimen, planted 12 years ago, is the first grafiosis-resistant elm in the municipality, part of the Restoration of Iberian elms project in the Tajo River basin.
Aranjuez also holds the recognition of World Tree City, which it has maintained for three years, acknowledging its commitment to the management and valorization of its urban trees.
The EUTreeTag campaign is driven by thirteen European organizations specializing in urban trees, with the shared goal of demonstrating their ecosystem benefits and increasing public awareness.
