The Alcorcón City Council held a meeting with representatives of the Polisario Front to consolidate institutional relations and cooperation with the Sahrawi people, addressing new initiatives and the 'Vacaciones en Paz' program.

The meeting, attended by the mayor and the Councillor for Cooperation, aimed to strengthen collaboration and solidarity ties. Among the topics discussed was the reinforcement of the relationship with the Daira of Bucraa, within the framework of the twinning that will unite both communities for 30 years in 2027. Various commemorative activities are already being planned to celebrate this milestone.

"Alcorcón is an open city, and proof of this is the 'Vacaciones en Paz' program, promoted together with the Alcorcón for the Sahrawi People association, which we have been developing for years in this city and which is a benchmark in the field of cooperation."

For his part, a representative of the Polisario Front emphasized the importance of municipal solidarity as a reflection of citizen commitment to the Sahrawi cause, framed within international legality. He highlighted that Alcorcón has played a crucial role through awareness-raising actions, the 'Vacaciones en Paz' program, and the twinning with Bucraa.

"In 50 years of resistance, they have always maintained that municipal solidarity reflects the direct commitment of citizens to the Sahrawi people and their cause within international legality."

The meeting also served to define future lines of work, focused on raising awareness of the Sahrawi people's situation and supporting their demands. The City Council explained that these meetings, along with the recent visit of the Councillor for Cooperation to the Sahrawi refugee camps in Tinduf, seek to expand cooperation in areas such as prevention and emergency management.
Additionally, the possibility of donating professional security equipment and promoting training actions and exchange programs with Sahrawi teams is being evaluated, in order to address the needs identified on the ground.
