The city of Alcorcón has paid an emotional tribute to two firefighters who died in the line of duty, dedicating a new children's area in Darwin Park and a memorial to preserve their memory.
The Unified Security Center in Alcorcón was the setting for a commemorative event honoring two firefighters who lost their lives in a fire on April 2, 2025. The Mayor of Alcorcón, Candelaria Testa, highlighted the fallen firefighters' vocational commitment to protecting and caring for citizens.
“
"This act calls us to remember the firefighters and our gratitude to the memory of these two young men who gave their lives in the line of duty, fulfilling the vocation of firefighters: to protect and care for us."
During the ceremony, the XXXV Firefighters' Memorial was announced, scheduled for Sunday, May 10, and dedicated to the memory of the two firefighters. The Mayor emphasized that Alcorcón "holds in its memory the names" of the deceased and their stories, ensuring the city will remember them with dignity and respect.
Additionally, a new children's area in Darwin Park was inaugurated in their honor. This space aims to symbolize "life, community, and the continuity of the values" they represented, serving as a place to remember their dedication to others. Residents will see their names in this park, solidifying their legacy in the community.

"Our job is not a normal job; it is a very vocational job, of public service, and one in which you are always preparing, although for these things you are never prepared. With the Memorial, we pay tribute to all colleagues who have suffered throughout the history of the Fire Department."
The event included a minute of silence and the participation of the Municipal School of Music. Subsequently, a monolith plaque was unveiled in their memory, and the firefighters' flag was raised. Finally, attendees moved to Darwin Park for the unveiling of the plaque naming the children's area, thus perpetuating the memory of the two firefighters in the city.
