The incident occurred in late July when a police patrol noticed a vehicle near a gas station in Móstoles. The occupants of the car threw a metallic object out of the window upon realizing the police presence.
Officers confirmed the object was a handgun, identical to the service weapon of the National Police Corps. Suspecting the individuals might be planning a robbery at the gas station, they proceeded to identify them.
Later, one of the suspects appeared at the police station to claim the seized weapon. According to police sources, the involved officer, assigned to a judicial body in Madrid, went to the station to retrieve the pistol.
The weapon's carrier was arrested for alleged illegal possession of a firearm, while the officer was detained as an accomplice. Initial investigations have ruled out any intention by the suspect to rob the gas station.
The National Police is continuing its investigation to fully clarify what happened. The officer involved faces an informational inquiry as a result of these events.
