The assembly's activities began on Friday at the Margarita Burón Civic Center with a networking day that gathered groups from various regions. During this meeting, the manifesto for active mobility, promoted by ConBici and other organizations, was read, aiming to foster healthier, safer, and people-oriented cities. The local council actively collaborated as host of this initiative shared with the associative fabric.
The main session took place on Saturday, April 18, with the celebration of the ConBici General Assembly. The councilor for Mobility, Ecological Transition, Environment, and Education of Alcorcón, intervened to present the progress made in the municipality regarding sustainable mobility.
“"With the Bicibús initiative, we not only reduce emissions and traffic in school environments, but we also promote healthy habits and education in values, in a safe environment committed to the environment."
During her speech, the councilor also highlighted the development of the Bicibús project, an initiative that allows schoolchildren to travel to their educational centers by bicycle in an organized manner and under the supervision of monitors. As the final part of the program, an open 'bike ride' was organized, inspired by the Bicibús model, in which citizens and groups participated, touring the municipality's cycling network to encourage daily bicycle use.
“"Alcorcón is today a benchmark in mobility because we have prioritized the well-being of our residents in the design of the city. In recent years, we have increased the cycling network by almost 20%, connecting neighborhoods and making the bicycle a real and safe alternative to private vehicles."
These achievements, according to the councilor, are the result of a sustained commitment to sustainable mobility, demonstrating that political will and continuity in public policies can transform cities into healthier, safer, and more livable spaces.
