The Villalbilla City Council joins the awareness campaign for National ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) Day, illuminating the Plaza Mayor in orange and promoting greater social understanding and adequate attention for this disorder.

On the occasion of National ADHD Day, the Villalbilla City Council joins the awareness campaign promoted by the Spanish Federation of Associations for Help with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (FEAADAH), under the slogan «A present reality in our society». The objective of this day is to make visible, raise awareness, and break down myths about a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects both children and adults, promoting greater social understanding and demanding adequate attention in health, education, and social spheres.
To support this cause, yesterday afternoon, the Plaza Mayor became the epicenter of awareness and inclusion with an emotional advocacy event. Representatives from the Association of Functional Diversity met with members of the municipal corporation to join forces in support of this cause, highlighting the needs and rights of the group. As a symbol of solidarity, the entire Plaza Mayor was illuminated with a vibrant orange color, reinforcing the institutional and neighborhood commitment to a truly inclusive society.
ADHD is a neurobiological condition that can manifest through difficulties in maintaining attention, impulsivity, and/or hyperactivity. Early detection and access to appropriate support are fundamental to fostering the well-being and personal, academic, and social development of those who live with this disorder.
The City Council reminds that ADHD is also present in adulthood, it is not a lack of interest, education, or effort, and people with ADHD do not act in a certain way by choice or whim. Information, understanding, and support are key to real inclusion. It urges not to judge what is not understood, but to inform oneself, listen, accompany, and respect.
When a person with ADHD experiences significant emotional distress, it is important to act with calmness and accompaniment, avoiding physical restraint which can increase anxiety or feelings of overwhelm. It is recommended to allow them to express their emotions in a safe environment, maintain an accompanying attitude until they regain calm and can express what is happening, and to remind them of the importance of following their prescribed treatment if they have medication.
The Villalbilla City Council aims to contribute to building a more informed, understanding, and inclusive society, where people with ADHD and their families find support, respect, and opportunities to fully develop their capabilities.
